Hi! I'm Maggie, and I'm a sophomore English major at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. I'm originally from Hilo, Hawaii, and although I miss island life very much, I love being out on my own on this great big continent called North America. :)

Three of my favorite ladies! Me with my sisters and cousin (I'm the third from the left)

When I'm not doing homework or herding eager prospective students around campus as a tour guide, I can be found reading, writing, watching movies, being goofy with my friends, or hanging out with kids. I'm a vegan (although I won't be when we're there...oh gosh that would be so hard), I play the ukulele, and I can (shamelessly) list every animated Disney movie in order of release date.

While this isn't my first missions experience—I went to Thailand twice with my youth group in high school, and this past summer I served at a women's and children's shelter in Portland with InterVarsity—I've wanted to serve in a Spanish-speaking country for a long time, so I know this trip is going to be very special. I imagine everyone's at least a little nervous about the money, but you know what they say: you can't spell fundraising without FUN! (ahahaha...ahem)

Anyway, I'm learning to love the thrill of not knowing what will happen next, so for the next few months I'll just be living in the promise of that uncertainty and looking forward to Guatemala with great anticipation. I'm excited to speak Spanish, meet the people there, learn about their stories and their culture, love Jesus, love like Jesus, and be loved by Jesus. Can't wait to meet you all—113 more days!
