Hello everyoneI
I am Jacob Bly. I have lived in Virginia all my life. I grew up near WInchester, which is pretty much as far north in VA as you can go. Right now I live in Blacksburg because I go to Virginia Tech! This is my second year there. VT is awesome and I love going to school here but it can be pretty tough sometimes, especially right now, because all the math teachers think that you are already a pro engineer. I am studying Geology with the hopes of specializing in Hydrology so I can do something dealing with water resources. I just want to work with water resources without the engineering side of it... I despise mathematics. I sort of have an official job with the Geo department here at VT where we basically carry boxes of rocks around and either organize them on shelves or toss them in a dumpster haha. It's a super easy to make money and we get to keep any sweet samples we find! My main way of making money / having fun is playing with my 2 bands though. I am one of the biggest bluegrass junkies you could ever meet. I play banjo and guitar pretty much all day when I am not in class or doing homework. I played trombone in band all through middle and high school as well. Music is so awesome! When I'm not playing music or at a bluegrass festival, I love doing things outdoors like hunting, fishing, hiking, road biking, etc.
I have never been on a mission trip before but I am SO excited for this! I only accepted Christ a year ago this week actually! and it has been a crazy ride since then. It's insane how much you can learn and change in just a year. One thing I am nervous about is raising the money, which seems to be a pretty common trend here but I know it will all work out for us all. After all it's just money and God is sovreign! The other thing is about speaking spanish. I am just going to have to dig up my spanish notes from high school and relearn as much as I can! I am so excited to meet all of you guys!
